Our main goal is to ensure we do not damage the beautiful stone or bronze marker. We use lots and lots of water, and sometimes we even use a little Dawn dish soap to get the grime off. The other liquid solution we use is D/2, which is a biological solution that is biodegradable, non-toxic, leaves no harmful residues, and works to restore the beauty of the monument. D/2 is trusted by architects and conservators to clean and protect historical monuments, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, The White House, and The Alamo. The tools and equipment we use are soft cloths, soft brushes, non-abrasive sponges, soft brooms/sweeps, smooth bamboo, and flat nylon tools. We occasionally hand-trim any long grass next to the monument/marker with a grass shear, and on rare occasions, a metal tool may be used on an area of grass next to a flat marker to prevent overgrowth. We do not use abrasives, wire brushes, or metal tools on the monuments or markers. We also do not power-wash monuments or markers.
